Description
AGE reports the age of respondents.
Comparability
Age topcodes vary across samples.
- In 1993, AGE is topcoded at 92.
- In 2003-2004, AGE is topcoded at 80.
- In 2005 and later, AGE is topcoded at 85.
In the original ATUS data, age is topcoded at 80 in 2003 and 2004 and 85 in 2005 and later. A flag in the original data allows us to distinguish between 80 year olds and those older than 80. Individuals whose age was topcoded in the original data are coded as 81 in the AHTUS.
