Description

CHILD reports whether a child under 18 years old was present during the reported activity. This information may come from "who" codes or from activities performed with children.

For a more detailed data sample of the number of children under 18 years old in the household, users may refer to UNDER18. Users who are interested in a complete record of adult 18+ living with co-resident child aged younger than 5 or aged 5-17 may refer to FAMSTAT.

Users who want more details about other presence may refer to INFANT, HHADULT, ANIMAL, SPPART, OTHERP, SHOPROF, COWORK, CLSFAM, WELLKNW, and UNKNWP. The relationship between who variables is documented here.

CHILD is only available if you select a hierarchical extract. If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you. Alternatively, you may use CHILD to construct a time use variable as part of this system.
