Description
ETHNIC reports the detailed ethnic group of the respondent. Users who want a historically-compatible ethnicity variable should use ETHNIC2. In addition, users may also want to use HISP, which indicates Hispanic descent.
Comparability
In 1975 this information was collected based on the interviewer's observation. After 1975, respondents reported their own ethnicity.
