Description

SEC reports the secondary activity of the respondent.

SEC is only available if you select a hierarchical extract. If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you. Alternatively, you may use SEC to construct a time use variable as part of this system.

Comparability

The variable is comparable from 1965-1985 and 1998 when detailed secondary activities are collected. Information about secondary activities is limited in 1993, 1995, and the ATUS (2003 forward).
