Codes and Frequencies
Description
WHERE reports the location where the activity was performed. WHERE is coded based on the respondent's report of where the activity took place as well as the location implicit in the activity codes. In contrast to ELOC, WHERE contains greater detail about the mode of transportation. Users may also consult MTRAV for information about travel apart from location.
WHERE is only available if you select a hierarchical extract. If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you.

This variable is comparable across years.
The 1985+ surveys include further details travelling mode including car, truck, motorcycle, mass transport (public), walking, cycling and other modes of transportation (see MTRAV).
